Duke of Edinburgh's Award
Duke of Edinburgh Award
Churchward School is proud to be a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Licensed Organisation. We currently offer the Bronze Award to students in Key Stage 4.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is the world’s best known and respected youth Award. Through their DofE Award activities, students have opportunities to develop traits such as confidence, resilience and self-esteem, which can benefit mental health. They will gain skills and attributes for work and life, like problem-solving, team-working and self-motivation – and they’ll achieve an Award that’s recognised by employers & educators, and can help them stand out when applying for courses and jobs.
To achieve a Bronze Award, students complete activities in 4 sections: Skills, Volunteering, Physical and Expedition. These can be done independently at home or within the school timetable. The 2-day Expedition will be done as a group activity and involves students working as part of a small team and completing training to make sure they're fully prepared, before spending two days exploring on foot in the outdoors.
Participants who complete their Skills, Volunteering and Physical sections will also receive a DofE Certificate of Achievement – a formal recognition, by the DofE charity, of their efforts. If they, for any reason, are then unable to do an expedition and finish the entire DofE Award, this certificate is valuable on a CV or course applications.
Churchward School started running the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in 2021 and we have been delighted to see 3 students successfully complete all 4 sections and receive their certificates & badges.
A further 2 students received a Certificate of Achievement recognising that they completed 3 of the 4 sections
Students have completed a variety of activities including cooking, cycling, playing for a local football team, volunteering at an animal sanctuary and in a charity shop.
